Greening Events, Concerts and Companies to Help Reduce Greenhouse Gases
TORONTO, ONTARIO-(PRNewswire - June 4, 2008) PickupPal, the World’s first online transportation marketplace, reports strong membership growth fueled by high gas prices, environmental concerns, and linkages with major events and festivals. Through its unique Eco-Rideshare Program (ERP), PickupPal provides custom rideshare websites on behalf of major corporations, festivals, events and musicians, and is signing up partners at a rapid pace.
In the past month, PickupPal has signed partner contracts with over 30 prominent organizations including: Reverbrock.org, Virgin Festival Canada, the Montreal Jazz Festival, Dave Matthews Band, Ottawa Bluesfest, Subaru Triathlon Series, Clean Air Foundation, real world unified communications provider Mitel®, and others.
“We’re always on the lookout for fresh new ways to keep Virgin Festival as green as we can. One of the biggest contributors to the climate crisis is the smog and emissions from vehicles,” said Andrew Bridge, Director of Virgin Festival Canada, “The Eco-Rideshare Program is a perfect answer. It cuts back on greenhouse gases, helps make people more aware of easy things they can do to help the environment, and hooks them up with some new buddies on the way to the Festival. What’s not to love?”
“Partners have been very excited to introduce PickupPal’s Eco-Rideshare Program to their events, as it’s easy to use and provides an instant green ridesharing option for anyone going to and from a specific venue anywhere in the world.” said John Stewart, founder and CEO, PickupPal. “As much as 80 percent of the carbon footprint of concerts, festivals and events is based on transportation to the venues – eco-ridesharing enables people to double-up, meet new friends, track the C02 avoided by doing this and get to the show more efficiently.”
PickupPal expects continued rapid user growth, particularly in the corporate area, as several Fortune 1000 companies have also signed up, including Mitel. “We have been looking for a solution to help our employees coordinate travel to and from offices and to reduce the environmental impact of employee transportation,” commented Vani Naidoo, head of Mitel’s Let’s Talk Green Program. “Recently introduced, PickupPal will allow us to track our total mileage and C02 avoided over time so our employees can track their impact achieved through the program.”
In the near term, PickupPal also sees professional sports leagues, major clubs and communities adopting its service as a way to cut costs for employees and fans. “As our following builds contagious enthusiasm many more organizations will implement PickupPal, given the tangible benefits for everyone involved, and how easy it is to deploy our Eco-Rideshare Program.” concluded Eric Dewhirst, founder and CTO of PickupPal.
PickupPal was launched in January, 2008 and is a privately held corporation.
